Author Guidelines

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. The scope of article study should be in the area of clinical nutrition and dietetics, food services, and community nutrition.
  2. Prior to the acceptance of the article, authors should complete the form of submission declaration together with the submitted manuscript. Please sign, scan and place it on the first page of the article.
  3. Authors can submit and process the article free of charge in Jurnal Gizi Indonesia (The Indonesian Journal of Nutrition). But if your article is accepted for publication, you will be charged IDR 750.000,-
  4. Articles that have already been presented in the conferences should be mentioned in the footnote. 
  5. The manuscript should be written in Microsoft Word program, A4 paper in single column form, Font: Times New Roman 11, with line spacing of 1.5, with 2 cm margins each side, and line numbers should be given at the left margin.
  6. Manuscripts should be on 20 pages including graphs and tables, without written page number.
  7. Manuscript must be written in English with good grammar. The other language those are used in the article should be written in italic format. 
  8. Each author should attach the form of submission declaration (that the submitted article does not contain plagiarism and only submitted in Jurnal Gizi Indonesia (the Indonesian Journal of Nutrition). 
  9. Manuscript should be prepared  in the structure of article as follows: Tittle, Author and Affiliantions, Abstract with keywords, Introduction,  Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgment (optional), References.
  10. The submitted article should be original and sent online to http://ejournal.undip.ac.id/index.php/jgi/user/register
  11. The final decision will be confirmed by correspondence email.

 

MANUSCRIPT TEMPLATE

The manuscript should be prepared according to the following guidelines and template. Download for JGI template

 

ARTICLE STRUCTURE

1. Title

Title must be in English. Title should describe clearly the study, concise, informative, no more than 16 words. The capital letter is only used at the beginning of the title (Sentence case) and bold letter in 16 pts. The title is written without abbreviations.

 

2. Author name and affiliation

The author's name and affiliation are placed below the article title with a size of 10 pts and single spacing, with the following conditions:

a. The author's name should be written without an academic title and the author’s affiliation should be under the article title.

  • If the author's institution is a university, then write Department/Study Program, Faculty (if any), Name of University, Country

Example:

Department of Nutrition Science, Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, Indonesia

  • If the author's institution is from other than a university, then write Department/Section, Name of Institution, Country

Example:

-            Public Health Division, Semarang City Health Office, Indonesia

-            Nutrition Department, RSUPN dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo, Indonesia

b. If a research team writes an article, please only write the correspondence email address of one of the authors.

 

3. All of the article body titles should be written in capital and bold letter (UPPER CASE); furthermore, the sub-tittle should be written in font of: Sentence case.

Example:  ABSTRACT; BACKGROUND;  MATERIALS AND METHODS; Sample size; Statistical analysis

 

4. Abstract

  • A concise and factual abstract is required in 250-300 words.  Abstract must be written in good English, in Italic letter, and single spacing.
  • The abstract should state briefly: Background, Objective, Materials and Methods, Results and Conclusion.   
  • Immediately after abstract, provide 3 - 5 keywords that reflect the content of the manuscript. Keywords should be arranged alphabetically and separated by semicolon (;).

 

5. Background

In Background, authors should state the gap analysis and concise literature survey. Authors should state the objectives of the work at the end of the background section.

 

6. Materials and Methods

  • Materials and methods should cover the research design, time, research population/sample/subject, sampling method, variable, data collection, and analysis method.
  • For research in the laboratory: Please clearly specify the instruments that are used to analyze samples.
  • For experimental research: Please clearly identify the primary materials in the study.
  • Please attach the ethical clearance document proven by ethical commission.

 

7. Results

  • The results should be clear and concise.  The results should summarize (scientific) findings rather than provide data in detail. The author should state the important finding in the result.
  • Results of study may perform figure, table and results analysis related to objectives of research. Ensure that the table and figure have clear captions.
  • The mathematical equation must be written clearly. The decimal number must be separated by a period (.)
  • Place the number of tables and figures/charts consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text. The tables and figures tittle are written in Capital Each Word, bold, and align left.
  • Please submit tables as editable text and not as images. The table only has horizontal lines, without vertical line separation. Put the title of table above the table and any notes under the table (table footnote).
  • Supply caption of figure separately, not attached to the figure. A caption should comprise a brief title and a description of illustration.  Keep text in the illustration themselves to a minimum but explain all symbol and abbreviations used. Put the title of figure/chart under the figure/chart body.

 

8. Discussions

  • Discussion should explore the significance of the result of work, and not repeat the results.
  • Support the result of work with related theory, compare with latest previous research, concise citations and discussion of published literature.
  • The following components should be covered in discussion: How do your results relate to the original question or objectives outlined in the Introduction section (what/how)? Do you provide interpretation scientifically for each of your results or findings presented (why)? Are your results consistent with what other investigators have reported (what else)? Or are there any differences?
  • This section should include the advantages and disadvantages of the study.

 

9. Conclusion

The conclusion should answer the objective of study and should be based on the results and discussions stated earlier. Add suggestions and feedback based on the findings of research for future research.

 

10. Acknowledgment (optional)

List the individuals/institutions who provide research grant donors or sponsors, contributors of samples/materials, and providers of research facilities.

 

11. References
  • All research reports must have at least 15 references.
  • Reference must be valid, 80% comes from publications in the last 10 years and contains at least 40% of primary references (scientific papers, theses, dissertations, proceedings, and patent documents). It is not permitted to refer abstract only for references.
  • The references of the articles that already accepted in the magazine before published should be written as in press or forthcoming.  References those only submitted in magazine should be written as unpublished observation.  This article could only use if it is very important in supporting article and should ask the author in written permission.
  • Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list. Reference lists are checked for accuracy. References can only be linked via Crossref if they are correct and complete (include DOI name).
  • The abbreviation of journal title should follow the ISI Journal Title Abbreviation as can be seen at  https://isindexing.com/isi/
  • The reference style should follow Vancouver superscript style and use the reference management software like Endnote, Mendeley, Zotero, etc.

 

Citation Example :

According to WHO, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia would triple from 8.4 million in 2000 to 21.3 million in 2030.12 ….

Guidelines for Online Submission

Author should first register as Author and is offered as Reviewer through the following address: https://ejournal.undip.ac.id/index.php/jgi/about/submissions#onlineSubmissions

The author should fulfill the form as detail as possible where the star marked form must be entered. After all form textbox was filled, Author clicks on “Register” button to proceed the registration. Therefore, Author is brought to online author submission interface where Author should click on “New Submission”. In the Start a New Submission section, click on “’Click Here’: to go to step one of the five-step submission process”. The following are five steps in online submission process:

  • Step 1 - Starting the Submission: Select the appropriate section of the journal, i.e. Original Research Articles, Review Article, or Short Communication. Thus, the author must check-mark on the submission checklists. An author should type or copy-paste Covering Letter in Letter to Editor.
  • Step 2 – Uploading the Submission: To upload a manuscript to this journal, click Browse on the Upload submission file item and choose the manuscript document file (.doc/.docx) to be submitted, then click "Upload" button until the file has been uploaded. Do not upload cover letter and other supplementary files here.
  • Step 3 – Entering Submission’s Metadata: In this step, detail authors metadata should be entered including marked corresponding author. After that, manuscript title and abstract must be uploaded by copying the text and paste in the textbox including keywords.
  • Step 4 – Uploading Supplementary Files: Supplementary file should be uploaded including Covering/Submission Letter, and Signed Copyright Transfer Agreement Form. Therefore, click on Browse button, choose the files, and then click on Upload button.
  • Step 5 – Confirming the Submission: Author should final check the uploaded manuscript documents in this step. To submit the manuscript to JGI journal, click Finish Submission button after the documents are true. The corresponding author or the principal contact will receive an acknowledgment by email and will be able to view the submission’s progress through the editorial process by logging in to the journal web address site. 

After this submission, Authors who submit the manuscript will get a confirmation email about the submission. Therefore, Authors are able to track their submission status at any time by logging in to the online submission interface. The submission tracking includes a status of manuscript review and editorial process.
