Abstract


Social history is a discourse, which depicts not just the history for political purposes, but also the history of marginal society. This article will describe and analyse the history of of Kalang people and Pesanggem who live in Rembang regency in the pre and during the colonialism. Kalang people lived in the forestry area, utilized and depended on forest commodities. They totally have different stereotype compare to Java people. In the colonialism era, the Java Kingdom employed them as loggers, carpenters, craftsmen, and also as soldiers. Nowadays, Kalang people have already extinct, but other argued that the ancient of Samin people is Kalang peole. Pesanggem is poor farmer, living near the forest as Kalang, but later they cannot explore the forest resources, and have to deal with Dutch colonialist during the colonial period, and recently to the National Forestry Agency. The Pesanggem is also known as Mbaon people.
