Abstract


Indonesian political strategy in the context of struggling for liberation of West Irian is a real evidence of the success of the country against colonialism and imperialism. The long process of this diplomatic struggle  was run through many domestic political disturbances and had a great effect on her international diplomatic policy in the context of Cold War.The research was conducted as critical history writing method, based on some textual literatures, documents, and archives. The process of liberation had some influences on the instability of Parlement, the cancellation of Uni/Round Table Conference, the nationalization of Dutch private companies, and the implementation of Tri Komando Rakyat. However, internationally, Indonesia had a chance to mobilize international supports through Asia Africa Conference and the United Nations. However, many Indonesian’s efforts failed, and West Irian was overpowered by the Dutch and Western powers. It was also weighted by the USA political position. Therefore, Sukarno regime’s policy related to the polarization of two superpowers, USA and Soviet Union.
