PERKEMBANGAN DAN PELESTARIAN MANUSKRIP ARAB MELAYU DI ACEH

Abstract

In line with the coming of Islam in the Indonesian archipelago especially in Aceh, Arabic alphabet starting to be recognized. Gradually, there had  been adaptation process in which Arabic alphabet  could be used for writing Malays language. Such kinds of alphabet was then recognized as Arabic Malays alphabet. By using the Arabic Malays alphabet for the centuries the Acehnese writers and also Southeast Asian had produced thousands of works which is now called as the Arabic Malays Manuscripts. The introduction of latin alphabet brought by Western peoples caused the popularity of Arabic Malays alphabet decrased. In the recent time, most people in Aceh cannot read Arabic Malays manuscript anymore. It is very important to preserve such kinds of manuscript and also the appreciation of the Acehnese community toward the manuscript. This article intends to depict the history of preservation efforts on Arabic Malays manuscripts.
