KEBIJAKAN PEMERINTAH TENTANG ETNIS CINA*
Abstract
The Chinese existence in Indonesia is still a problem although they have
been in this country for many generations. There is still a negative image among
the natives Indonesians toward their Chinese counterpart. Therefore, the Chinese
had suffered from various coercion in alomost every social conflict. Besides,
unclear policies of the government in handling this culturally based problem
constitutes another unsolved Chinese problem. The Presidents Decision
Number 6, 2000, creates a space for a recognition of the existence of this
etnical group. However problem exist in the reaction of the natives Indonesians
toward this decision. It is argued whether they are willing to change their (negative)
view which has persisted for a long time.
