Salah satu marga fitoplankton yang selalu hadir dan mendominasi di perairan Teluk Jakarta adalah Skeletonema sp. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji fenomena kemunculan jenis ini terkait dengan beberapa parameter lingkungan serta dengan marga fitoplankton predominan lainnya. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa kelimpahan Skeletonema sp. seirama dengan Chaetoceros sp. yang mengindikasikan bahwa kedua jenis ini secara bersamaan memanfaatkan nutrisi dengan laju yang relatif sama. Kelimpahan Skeletonema sp. juga mempunyai hubungan positip dengan kadar silikat dan suhu akan tetapi berhubungan negatip dengan salinitas. Dari hasil ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa kelimpahan Skeletonema sp. di perairan Teluk Jakarta disebabkan oleh kadar silikat yang dipasok dari darat melalui air sungai, suhu serta kadar salinitas yang kemungkinan besar akibat curah hujan. Phytoplankton may be regarded as one of primary indicators of changes in the surrounding environment because of its role in the food web and of its high adaptability or high sensitivity to varying environmental conditions among organism. Skeletonema sp., is one of phytoplankton species which is always exist and dominate in Jakarta Bay waters. The aim of this paper is to study the occurence of this species related to environmental parameters and other predominance species. The study shows that Skeletonema sp. has always co-exist with Chaetoceros sp., which indicate that these two species utilized food resources relatively at the same rate. The occurence of Skeletonema sp., is also positively correlated with silicate concentrations and temperature, but negatively correlated with salinity. From this study it can be concluded that the occurence of Skeletonema sp. in Jakarta Bay waters was influenced by the silicate concentrations from the mainland through river flow, temperature and the concentration of salinity most probably related to the rainfall.
