MODEL PEMBELAJARAN INFORMAL PERCAKAPAN DASAR BAHASA INGGRIS BAGI KAUM MUDA

Artikel ini menyajikan suatu model dalam pembelajaran percakapan dasar bahasa Inggris bagi kaum muda.  Artikel ini didasarkan pada kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilaksanakan di daerah Tambak Lorok Semarang pada bulan Oktober 2019 dengan sasaran kaum muda. Tujuan pelatihan untuk membekali para kaum muda dalam mempersiapkan Tambak Lorok sebagai destinasi wisata Kampung Bahari.  Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa peserta pelatihan menunjukkan sikap yang positif yang ditunjukkan dalam berpartisipasi dalam proses pembelajaran. Akan tetapi, motivasi kurang begitu tinggi karena adanya rasa keengganan dan keraguan mereka bisa mampu berbahasa Inggris. Materi yang disampaikan antara lain  how to approach someone, how to ask for information about prices, places of interests, how to thank or close conversations, how to greet. Materi yang diberikan dimaksudkan untuk merangsang kaum muda Tambak Lorok (Mulyo) menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Strategi pembelajaran yang dapat digunakan adalah strategi metakognitif, kognitif, dan afektif atau sosial. Strategi-strategi itu dapat dilakukan secara bertahap atau bersifat berkesinambungan tergantung pembelajar. Pembelajaran dilakukan secara informal di luar kelas dengan suasana yang cair dan fleksibel. Setiap hari direncanakan untuk praktek bicara bahasa Inggris.  Pelatihan ini sekaligus untuk memotivasi kaum muda untuk giat belajar bahasa Inggris karena kebutuhan global yang tidak mungkin dihindari.

ABSTRACT

 

              This article presents some tips in improving basic conversations in English for young people. This article was based on the community service conducted in Tambak Lorok (Tambak Mulyo) Semarang especially for young people. The end goal of the activity is to stimulate them to improve their English in order that they can prepare for Tambak Lorok as Kampung Bahari tourism destination. From the activity, it can be inferred that the participants have positive attitudes in learning English in joining the learning process.  However, their motivation is not quite high due to reluctance and doubt regarding to success in English. The topics presented among other things how to approach someone, how to ask for information about prices, places of interests, how to thank or close conversations, how to greet. This is to stimulate the participants to use English. The learning strategies used are metacognitive, cognitive, and affective/social learning strategies. The learning process can be conducted in informal situation, using realia or environment, and being flexible in terms of time, place, and material. Practice daily is necessary. The program is to motivate young people to learn English due to challenges in global era.
