ABSTRACT

The cultural values of a society are disseminated and preserved through its smallest unit, the family. The sustainability of these cultural values depends on the active role of family members in adapting to the development of the surrounding community, including the perspective of the cultural values of people from other cultures. The study in this article is the result of cross-cultural communication using the film Little Miss Sunshine, which takes the theme of family values. Through the lecture method to Seruni PKK RT 04/12 Banyuanyar Surakarta, the participants gained insight on the tradition of having family  dinner as a means of family communication, openness in communication and children's independence.
