Extending the Theory of Planned Behavior to Predict Waste Bank Utilization Intention in Pantai Indah Kapuk

Abstract
Active involvement of all sectors of society is essential for effective waste management, particularly in addressing non biodegradable waste. Although the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) framework has been widely promoted and supported by the establishment of community-based waste banks to facilitate recycling activities, public participation in utilizing these facilities remains limited. This study aims to investigate the determinants of waste bank utilization intention by extending the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) with stimulus-based factors derived from the Stimulus Organism–Response (SOR) framework. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire survey involving 175 respondents. The variables examined include attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, environmental knowledge, and waste bank knowledge. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control have a significant positive effect on waste bank utilization intention, with attitude being the most influential determinant (β = 0.353). In addition, environmental knowledge (β = 0.426) and waste bank knowledge (β = 0.392) significantly influence attitudes toward waste bank utilization. The proposed model demonstrates moderate explanatory power, explaining 64.3% of the variance in waste bank utilization intention and 50.1% of the variance in attitude. Overall, these findings indicate that the extended TPB effectively explains waste bank utilization intention in the Pantai Indah Kapuk area, with knowledge serving as a key antecedent of attitude, which in turn contributes to waste bank utilization intention.
