Abstract

Latar Belakang : Obesitas bukan hanya tentang lemak tubuh.

ABSTRACT
Title: The Relationship between Muscle Mass and Abdominal Circumference to Pulse and Blood Pressure of Medical Students at Abulyatama University

Background : Obesity is not Obesity is not always about body fat or muscle mass. One is by measuring abdominal circumference. The other one is by measuring blood pressure and heart rate as they can be influenced by body fat and muscle mass. Thus, this research was conducted to test the correlation between body fat, muscle mass, and abdominal circumference with heart rate and blood pressure.
Method : The type of research used is observational analytic with a cross-sectional design. Samples were taken as many as 112 students by measuring their pulse using a finger pulse oximeter. Meanwhile, blood pressure and abdominal circumference used a blood pressure measuring instrument and measuring tape and were tested using the Kormorgof Smirnov test because the number of samples used was more than 50 samples. This research was conducted in May 2023.
Result : The correlation between muscle mass and systolic blood pressure was p 0.462 (p 0.05) with an r value of -0.070. The correlation between muscle mass and diastolic blood pressure has a p value of 0.564 (p 0.05) with an r value of -0.055. Which indicates there is no correlation between muscle mass and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The correlation between abdominal circumference and pulse rate was p 0.003 (p 0.05) with an r value of 0.275. Which indicates there is a correlation between abdominal circumference and pulse rate. The correlation between abdominal circumference and systolic blood pressure was p 0.000 (p 0.05) with an r value of 0.596. The correlation between abdominal circumference and diastolic blood pressure was p 0.129 (p 0.05) with an r value of 0.144. Which indicates there is a correlation between abdominal circumference and systolic blood pressure.
Conclusion : This research shows that there is a significant correlation between muscle mass and heart rate, abdominal circumference and blood pressure, abdominal blood pressure and heart rate, as well as between muscle mass and abdominal circumference with heart rate. However, there is no significant correlation between muscle mass and blood pressure.
