Abstract

This study investigates the application of parametric design principles within low-tech architectural contexts, with a particular focus on material dimensions’ constraints and opportunities. Parametric design, which is traditionally associated with high-tech environments and advanced computational tools, offers a flexible and adaptive approach to problem-solving in architecture. This study explores how these principles can be effectively translated into low-tech settings, where material limitations and local craftsmanship play pivotal roles. By examining case studies through three simple projects and design processes, this research aims to develop a set of rules and guidelines for implementing parametric design using accessible materials and techniques. This paper analyzes how different material dimensions, such as size, shape, and structural properties, can be manipulated to achieve innovative and sustainable architectural solutions. Finally, the findings of this study will contribute to a broader understanding of how parametric design can be democratized, making advanced design methodologies available to a wider range of practitioners and communities.
