Abstract

Pertumbuhan populasi dan ekonomi telah meningkatkan jumlah bisnis laundry yang dapat memiliki dampak negatif terhadap lingkungan karena penggunaan deterjen sebagai bahan aktif dalam proses pencucian. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji kemampuan Spirulina platensis sebagai agen remediasi limbah laundry. Tahapan penelitian meliputi penyiapan kultur Spirulina platensis, sampling limbah laundry, inokulasi limbah dengan Spirulina platensis, analisis karakteristik limbah remediasi, analisis mikroskopik dan pengukuran biomassa spirulina, dan identifikasi produk intermediet degradasi air limbah laundry. Penelitian dirancang dengan membuat perbandingan kultur spirulina: air limbah laundry (v/v) yaitu kultur A (5:1), B (1:1), dan C (1:5), dengan kultur kontrol adalah spirulina tanpa air limbah. Hasil menunjukkan kinerja terbaik remediasi pada kultur C dengan reduksi COD, BOD, dan TSS masing-masing 59,2; 69,5 dan 72,1%. Morfologi spirulina setelah meremediasi lebih pendek dengan bentuk yang abnormal, terpecah, kasar, dan adanya tempelan agregat sebagai adaptasi spirulina terhadap kondisi lingkungan. Biomassa bobot basah tertinggi dihasilkan oleh kultur A (6,3768 g), kemudian C (5,5423 g), dan B (4,9914 g) dengan reduksi berat berkisar 89-91%. Uji FTIR menunjukkan terjadi perubahan senyawa kimia di dalam spirulina. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa spirulina memiliki potensi menjanjikan dalam meremediasi limbah laundry.
