Distilasi merupakan salah satu unit operasi terpenting dalam teknik kimia. Kolom distilasi biner Wood & Berry memisahkan aliran feed (F, XF) menjadi produk atas (D,XD) dan produk bawah (B,XB). Perancangan kendali pada kolom distilasi biner memiliki beberapa kendala yang disebabkan oleh non-linearitas pada proses, interaksi multivariabel, dan adanya gangguan. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, dibutuhkan suatu metode kendali modern yang mampu membuat respon sistem mengikuti perubahan set point dan meredam atau mengeliminasi gangguan, sehingga keluaran komposisi produk sesuai dengan yang diharapkan. Metode Adaptive Internal Model Control 2 Degree of Freedom (AIMC 2 DoF) merupakan salah satu jenis metode kendali modern yang mampu mengendalikan plant multivariabel dan meredam atau mengeliminasi gangguan yang ada. Berdasarkan seluruh pengujian yang telah dilakukan, pengendali AIMC  2 DoF menggunakan metode tuning parameter filter Skogestad dengan nilai  dan  serta nilai gain adaptasi  dan   pada sistem multivariabel kolom distilasi biner Wood & Berry memiliki nilai IAE terkecil dibandingkan keempat metode lainnya.
