Abstract

Abstract

[Bio-Supply Chain Optimization: an Integrated Renewable Energy Supply Chain System as The Implementation of Phytoplankton-Based Biodiesel]The growing demand for renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources has driven the use of renewable fuels such as phytoplankton-based fuels as alternative fuels for the future. This study aims to examine an integrated and optimized bio-supply chain model to support the production of phytoplankton-based biodiesel in Indonesia. A qualitative-descriptive approach was employed through literature review and conceptual analysis, focusing on the development of a sustainable and efficient supply chain system relevant to national conditions. Biomass supply chain management and optimization were analyzed using a hierarchical decision-making framework at three levels: strategic, tactical, and operational. At the strategic level, long-term decisions include the selection of supply chain configurations, allocation of phytoplankton resources, investment in processing infrastructure, and production capacity planning. The results indicate that applying strategic decisions across all stages of the biomass supply chain significantly enhances overall system efficiency. A case study involving the selection of Teluk Penyu as the cultivation site, the application of a mixotrophic cultivation system, and the use of floating photobioreactor (PBR) technology illustrates key strategic choices that support productivity and sustainability in phytoplankton-based biodiesel production. These findings provide a foundational framework for developing an integrated bio-supply chain system in the renewable energy sector.
