Namun, kalimat kondisional bahasa Jepang juga dapat dibentuk dengan menggunakan pola tewa dan baai . Penjelasan tentang fungsi, makna, dan perbandingan pola kalimat kondisional tewa dan baai tersebut perlu diteliti. Dalam penelitian ini, kalimat kondisional yang dikumpulkan dari korpus media surat kabar Jepang akan dianalisis berdasarkan jenis kalimat kondisional, modalitas, dan teori teritori informasi. Analisis menunjukkan bahwa fungsi utama kalimat kondisional tewa adalah kalimat kondisional repetitif yang menunjukkan perihal yang tidak diinginkan. Modalitas yang digunakan adalah modalitas aletis atau modalitas epistemik. Modalitas intensional dan deontik tidak ditemukan dalam kalimat kondisional tewa . Oleh karena itu, kandungan informasi kalimat kondisional tewa berada dalam teritori penutur dan mitra tutur. Sebaliknya, fungsi utama kalimat kondisional baai adalah kalimat kondisional hipotetis yaitu untuk menunjukkan hipotesis atau asumsi yang kuat. Modalitas yang digunakan dalam kalimat kondisional baai beragam, mulai dari modalitas intensional hingga modalitas aletis.
