Abstract

Title: Analysis of Factors Associated with Smoking Degree in Men Aged 26-45 Years in Aceh Besar.

Background: According to the Global Adults Tobacco Survey (GATS) it is estimated that there are 7.9 billion adult smokers and 3.5 billion people are exposed to secondhand smoke in the workplace. Smoking can cause the amount of oxygen in the lungs and blood flow to decrease so that work fatigue can occur. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the degree of smoking in men aged 26-45 years in Aceh Besar.

Method: This type of research is descriptive analytic with cross sectional design. The sample used was men aged 26-45 years as many as 45 respondents. Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation statistical test with a p value <0.05.

Result: Respondents who smoked based on their degree of smoking, the Brinkman index, were 56.8% mild smokers, 34.1% moderate smokers, and 9.1% heavy smokers. Smokers' oxygen saturation with normal results is 72.7%, and abnormal is 27.3%. The percentage of normal lactic acid is 65.9%, while the abnormal lactic acid level is 34.1%. The results of the analysis of smoking degrees with oxygen saturation using Pearson's correlation obtained 0.523. The results of the analysis of smoking degrees with lactic acid levels obtained a coefficient value of 0.596.

Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between smoking and oxygen saturation and lactic acid. The heavier the degree of smoking, the lower the oxygen saturation and lactic acid levels.
