It is highly agglutinative. It has about 6.6 million speakers in Kenya and its speakers are highly decentralized (Iribe,2016). There are limited studies that have been done on the structure of the Kikuyu Determiner Phrase (DP) using the X-bar theory (Noam Chomsky, 1970) focusing only on the modifiers of the DP. This necessitated this study because this research paper would create more resourceful material for speakers and researchers who decide to study Kikuyu Language. The aim of this study is to find out the structure of the Kikuyu Determiner Phrase focusing on Kikuyu determiners or modifiers of the noun. X-bar theory is used in showing different positions of modifiers in the DP as illustrated in the phrase structure trees. This study uses a descriptive and qualitative method for data analysis. The data for analysis was collected from resourceful informants and selected Kikuyu texts. The self-introspection method was used since the researcher is a native speaker of the Kikuyu language. It was revealed that Kikuyu determiners are pre-nominal and post-nominal, and others are both pre-posed and post-posed like demonstratives. }, issn = {23380683}, pages = {14--32} doi = {10.14710/parole.v13i2.14-32}, url = {https://ejournal.undip.ac.id/index.php/parole/article/view/51781} }
