Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan bahasa propaganda wacana otonomi khusus Provinsi Kaltim. Propaganda menggunakan manipulasi dan daya tipuan pesan yang mempesona sebagai sarana negosiasi dengan tujuan meyakinkan orang agar menganut suatu aliran, sikap, atau arah tindakan tertentu. Kerangka pemikiran dalam penelitian ini utamanya menggunakan teori semiotika Roland Barthes. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah semiotika Barthes dengan perangkat mengenai denotatif, konotatif, dan mitos. Data penelitian ini berupa penggunaan bahasa pada spanduk dan baliho otonomi khusus Kaltim.
