Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi ketersediaan area kerja pengoperasian jaring insang oseanik pada kapal jaring insang oseanik dan menilai kesesuaian area kerja pengoperasian jaring insang oseanik pada eks-kapal cantrang. Analisis data menggunakan metode deskriptif komparatif dan numerik komparatif antara area kerja pengoperasian jaring insang oseanik pada eks-kapal cantrang dan kapal jaring insang oseanik. Parameter yang dibandingkan adalah ketersediaan area kerja di atas dek dan area kerja bagi setiap ABK saat mengoperasikan jaring insang oseanik, baik pada tahapan setting , hauling , maupun handling . Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketersediaan area kerja pengoperasian jaring insang oseanik pada kapal jaring insang oseanik sebesar 33,27 – 35,77 m 2 saat setting , 43,20 – 45,55 m 2 saat hauling , dan 14,93 – 15,70 m 2 saat handling . Ketersediaan area kerja bagi ABK untuk mengoperasikan jaring insang oseanik pada pada kapal jaring insang oseanik untuk tahapan setting sebesar 1,79 – 1,89 m 2 /orang, untuk tahapan hauling sebesar 1,18 – 1,23 m 2 /orang, dan untuk tahapan handling sebesar 1,44 – 1,51 m 2 /orang. Ketersediaan area kerja pada eks-kapal cantrang mencukupi untuk mengoperasikan jaring insang oseanik, kecuali eks-kapal cantrang yang memiliki bangunan tambahan pada area dek kerja utama. The replacement of cantrang to the oceanic gill nets on ex-cantrang vessels feared would affect the safety of fishermen at sea. One of the factors that affect the safety of fishermen at sea is the availability of working areas on deck. This research aimed to identify the availability of working areas to operate oceanic gill nets on the oceanic gill nets vessels and assess the suitability of working areas on ex-cantrang vessels to operate oceanic gill nets. Data analysis used the comparative descriptive and numerical comparisons methods between the working areas of ex-cantrang vessels and oceanic gill nets vessels. Parameters compared was the availability of a working areas on deck and working areas for crews when operating oceanic gill nets, both when setting, hauling, and handling catches. The results showed that the the availability of a working areas to operate an oceanic gill nets on the oceanic gill nets vessels is 33.27 - 35.77 m 2 during setting, 43.04 - 43.55 m 2 during hauling, and 14.93 - 15,70 m 2 during handling. The availability of a working areas for crew members to operate oceanic gill nets while setting was 1.79 – 1.89 m 2 /person, when hauling was 1.18 – 1.23 m 2 /person, and when handling was 1.44 – 1.51 m 2 /person.
