Abstract

Stability of power systems has been and continues to be of major concern in system operation. This arises from the fact that in steady state the average electrical speed of all the generators must remain the same anywhere in the system. This is termed as the synchronous operation of a system. In the distribution of electricity is often a change in the frequency and power is not stable due to irregular load changes, either in the form of dynamic disturbances, and transient disturbances. The unstability it is one of the significant disturbance in the system that have an impact on primemover round in the center of the plant. Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) is one of the important members of FACTS family that is applied with long transmission lines by the utilities in modern power systems. This thesis examines the influence of TCSC on system stability, ie stability of rotor rotation speed, rotor angle, and frequency of the generator when in various operating conditions of power. To get the maximum damping, the TCSC tuned using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Simulation results show that TCSC is able to increase the stability of the power system operating at various conditions of load. It can be seen that at various load assumed power, 0.5 + j0.169, 0.8 + j0.3649, and 1.1 + j0.6479, each having eigenvalues are negative, -2.2006 + 0.0000i, -2.4800 + 0.0000i, and -2.6482 + 0.0000i. The resulting damping value is high, that is all worth 1.0000.
