DSSC mengubah energi surya menjadi energi listrik. DSSC terdiri dari elektroda semikonduktor, pewarna, elektroda lawan dan elektrolit. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mensintesis semikonduktor TiO 2 yang digunakan sebagai elektroda kerja pada DSSC dan diaplikasikan di bawah sinar matahari. Tahapan yang dilakukan adalah sintesis TiO 2 , karakterisasi menggunakan XRD dan SEM EDX, penyiapan elektroda semikonduktor, pembuatan elektroda lawan, penyiapan elektrolit I-/I3-, penyiapan pewarna indigo carmine, pembuatan DSSC, serta pengukuran arus dan tegangan DSSC yang dibuat. Dari hasil dari penelitian ini, diperoleh panjang gelombang maksimum indigo carmine adalah 610,5 nm. Difraktogram lapis tipis TiO 2 menunjukkan intensitas pola difraksi cukup tinggi dengan puncak 2θ yaitu 24,65°; 47,45°; dan 37,21° dengan ukuran kristal sebesar 14,04 nm. Morfologi permukaan lapis tipis TiO 2 pada perbesaran 3.000x menunjukkan permukaan TiO 2 yang berpori dan berbentuk sperik. Hasil EDX menunjukkan bahwa unsur Ti yang terdeteksi sebesar 56,88% dan unsur O yang terdeteksi sebesar 38,02%.
