Adanya peningkatan sedimentasi tersebut dapat berpengaruh terhadap keberadaan hewan Makrozoobentos di daerah muara sungai. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan November-Desember 2014 di Muara Sungai Betahwalang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik dan nilai laju sedimentasi serta mengetahui pengaruh sedimentasi terhadap kelimpahan Makrozoobentos di muara Sungai Betahwalang. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif dengan teknik purposive random sampling. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan di 5 (lima) stasiun dengan interval waktu 2 minggu. Karakteristik sedimentasi di muara Sungai Betahwalang adalah berupa liat dengan ukuran butiran fraksi tanah <0,002 mm kandungan bahan organik termasuk dalam harkat sedang sebesar 14%, laju sedimentasi tergolong kategori sangat berat dengan rata-rata 0,34 kg/m 2 /hari. Kelimpahan Makrozoobentos di muara Sungai Betahwalang termasuk kategori yang tinggi berkisar antara 154-1.026 ind/m 3. Nilai koefisien korelasi yang didapatkan sebesar (r=0,69) menandakan bahwa adanya korelasi yang kuat antara fraksi clay dengan kelimpahan Makrozoobentos. Sedangkan antara laju sedimentasi dengan kelimpahan Makrozoobentos diperoleh nilai koefisien korelasi (r=0,98) menandakan bahwa adanya korelasi yang sangat tinggi dan kuat antara keduanya. This area has different characteristic with neither ocean nor fresh water. The waters are influenced by tides which periodically also carry nutrient and sediment particles from mainland. Fresh water inflows carrying sediment particles from the mainland can increase both quantity and quality of sediments furthermore may affect the existence of macrozoobenthos in estuaries. This study was conducted on November to December 2014 in Betahlawang Estuary. The objectives of this study was to know characteristic of sediments and rate of sedimentation in Betahlawang Estuary, also to know the effect of sediment on the structure of macrozoobenthos community in Betahlawang Estuary. This was is a descriptive research used the purposive random sampling technique in collecting samples. The samples were collected from five stations per two. Sediments in the Betahwalang Estuary were in the form of clay with a diameter of soil fraction <0 , 002 mm, organic matters were in medium class or 14%, and the rate of sedimentation was categorized as a very heavy with an average of 0.34 kg/m 2 /day. Abundance of macrozoobenthos in the Betahwalang Estuary was in the category of high or ranging around 154 - 1 . 026 ind/m 3 . There was a strong correlation (r =0,69 ) between clay fraction and the abundance of macrozoobenthos. While the high correlation coefficient was found also between the rate of sedimentation and abundance of macrozoobenthos (r =0,98 ), that indicated that their correlation was strong.
